When I returned last year from nine months in South America with my family, one thing was clear: I needed a job. Cue “Alternatino,” a Comedy Central project that had already piloted and been greenlit for ten episodes. In some ways, it was a dream situation: I stepped into a show that was already defined, already (by virtue of the amazing pilot) successful. I worked with the star/creator Arturo Castro and the director Nick Jasenovec to hire some of my favorite (available) writers and we were off and running.
That was almost exactly one year ago.
As we were writing it, I knew we had something special on our hands because we were able (under the cover of Arturo) to say something unique and interesting about the Latino experience in this country, something I didn’t see being said anywhere else. I think this is what critics and viewers are responding to:
The year it took to write, cast, clothe, scout, shoot, edit, and mix this show was well worth it and I’m very proud of it. It’s on Comedy Central (Tuesdays at 10:30 PM ET/PT starting June 18th), so check it out.
